i-D Meets: Beabadoobee

Music

i-D Meets Filipino-born, London-based musician @Beabadoobee who tells us about her struggles growing up as a Southeast Asian girl in West London, how maturity helped her appreciate her roots, and her ‘lunchbox moment’ back in her school days.

The 22-year-old ultra-indie-pop singer-songwriter shares her childhood memories whilst giving us a bedroom tour, revealing her extensive collection of fan-gifted stuffed toys and angsty teenage diary entries.

At lunch, Bea orders a spread of classic Filipino staples including chicken wings, pancit canton, kubo fried rice, chicken adobo, and a triple threat dessert consisting of leche flan, turon and ube biko – as she discusses her obsession with chicken wings and her love for shrooms and weed edibles.

Back home, Beabadoobee talks about music as her form of therapy, unveiling that her latest album Beatopia came from a deep emotional awakening that she believes had been buried for a very long time.
